The parent of The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina, is proposing to spin off its newspaper division and other subsidiaries into three separate businesses under a plan to realign the holdings of the family-owned company, it was announced April 5.
The restructuring of Charleston-based Evening Post Industries is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, CEO John Barnwell said.

The Courier Journal's building in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, went on the market today with a listing price of $17 million. The paper's newsroom, however, is dedicated to being a strong presence in Louisville, likely downtown.

April 7, 2021 - Newspaper publishers from across the country are watching the moves taking place in the Florida legislature. The Public Notice Resource Center reports that one of the primary concerns to be addressed during a hearing scheduled for Thursday, April 8, concerns the type of free newspapers that may qualify to carry notices. This hearing on SB 402 is scheduled in Florida's Appropriations Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice.

The Altoona (Pennsylvania) Mirror leadership torch has been passed.
Ed Kruger, who has held the publisher position since 1998, is retiring and wrapping up a 60-year newspaper career. He will be succeeded by Circulation/Operations Manager Dan Slep, a fifth-generation descendent of Mirror founder Harry E. Slep.

Tribune Publishing Company today announced that the special committee of its board of directors, in consultation with its legal and financial advisers, has determined that a revised, non-binding proposal from Newslight, LLC, an entity jointly owned by Stewart Bainum and Hansjörg Wyss, dated April 1, to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Tribune common stock for $18.50 per share in cash would reasonably be expected to lead to a "Superior Proposal" as defined in Tribune's merger agreement with affiliates of Alden Global Capital LLC.
