State Journal-Register redesigns print publication to better showcase its content

The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Illinois, has introduced a redesigned look for its print edition.

The new body text is a custom font called Unify. Leisa Richardson, executive editor of The State Journal-Register and Lincoln Courier, said: "It’s about the same size as the previous font and similar in look. It was designed for Gannett based on research to refine the typeface so that it would be easy for everyone to read."

In a column introducing the changes, she said the new design also allows for more and larger photos.

Richardson said: "The print edition is just one component in a continuum of coverage. Several months ago, we instituted deadlines that ensure early morning home delivery times.

"Because of that, we're putting greater emphasis in print on enterprising news and feature stories that provide context, perspective and analysis — stories that take you behind the scenes, offer an insider’s perspective and provide the kind of detail and depth of reporting you won’t find elsewhere."
