Gary Tyler, an accomplished newspaper executive, has been promoted to publisher of the Richmond (Kentucky) Register, effective immediately.

Tyler has served as the paper’s general manager/advertising director since August of 2019. He will continue his advertising position in addition to his publisher’s responsibilities.

“I am happy to continue to serve Richmond Register in this new role,” he said. “We have a great team. We are all dedicated to increasing the paper’s presence in the community with quality journalism that recently led to 17 awards of excellence from the Kentucky Press Association.”

Tyler said he hopes to expand the newspaper’s advertising and marketing offerings in an effort to help local businesses thrive in Richmond and Madison County.

A native of New Albany, Indiana, Tyler began his newspaper career at The Courier Journal (Louisville) in advertising. He subsequently worked as director of advertising at the State Journal Register in Springfield, Illinois, and before that as publisher at the Louisville Business First, a major source of business news in the Louisville market.
