Does the public actually trust local news more?

A new study from the Knight Foundation and Gallup says yes, but mostly because national news is seen as so untrustworthy.

The report also presents a dilemma when it comes to boosting trust. According to respondents, local news outlets could do more to hold local officials accountable — but coverage of polarizing topics could also erode trust further.
