The Post and Courier, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and five-time finalist, is looking for a journalist with strong marketing chops to lead our newsletter strategy.

Locally owned and operated for decades, The Post and Courier has a large, robust newsroom that makes public officials tremble. Recent investments have equipped us with the all of the digital tools and strategies that will make a news organization successful well into the future.

Corporate consolidation and hedge fund ownership have pushed too many news organizations toward damaging shifts in the traditional journalism paradigm.  At The Post and Courier, we deeply value our relationship with our readers, and we believe in the old-school idea that investing in our journalism will lead to more readers and more revenue. To that end, in addition to our existing newsroom and market, we are expanding into Greenville and Myrtle Beach, S.C., later this year.

The Newsletter Editor, in cooperation with the Digital Marketing Manager and newsroom digital audience team, will plan and execute the strategy for the newsroom’s newsletter products informed by audience metrics, analytics and news judgement. This editor will also support marketing efforts by creating emails and other marketing creatives and supporting overall marketing strategy to grow our paying digital audience.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Create habit-forming email experiences.
  • Build, grow and nurture our subscriber base.
  • Work with reporters and editors to establish the tone, format and frequency of each newsletter and define best practices.
  • Experiment with new forms of storytelling and information delivery via email.
  • Be a champion for newsletters and a resource and mentor for understanding industry trends.
  • Work closely with audience development, marketing and sales teams to improve existing newsletters and find opportunities to build audience and grow revenue.
  • Communicate with newsroom leaders and other departments to keep various teams informed of product enhancements, success metrics, rollouts and other activity with newsletter products.
  • Assist with the creation and deployment of marketing emails and other creatives, including creation of segmented email messaging funnels.
