Leonard Woolsey nominated as next president of America's Newspapers

Leonard Woolsey, president of Southern Newspapers and president and publisher of The Daily News in Galveston, Texas, has been nominated to become president of America's Newspapers.  The election of officers and directors for 2024-25 will be held at 9 a.m. EDT on Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, during the Senior Leadership Conference in Charleston.

In addition to Woolsey, the following officers were nominated:

  • For vice president: Matt McMillan, CEO, Press Publications, White Bear Lake, Minnesota
  • For treasurer: Patrick Dorsey, publisher, Santa Fe New Mexican

Heidi Wright, COO of EO Media Group and publisher of The Bulletin in Bend, Oregon, will become immediate past president.

Board of Directors:

Five industry executives were nominated to serve additional three-year terms on the board of directors:

  • Michael Fishman, president, Lakeway Publishers, Inc., and publisher, Citizen Tribune, Morristown, Tennessee
  • Brian Jarvis, president, NCWV Media, Clarksburg, West Virginia
  • Ted McGrew, vice president, sales, newspaper segment, Kodak
  • Nick Monico, COO, Adams Publishing Group
  • Susan Patterson Plank, vice president of public notice and strategic transformation, USA TODAY Network

Five industry executives were nominated to initial terms on the board:

  • Otis Brumby, president and publisher, Marietta (Georgia) Daily Journal
  • Kevin Craig, CEO, PAGE Cooperative
  • John DeAugustine, president and publisher, Schenectady (New York) Daily Gazette
  • Bala Sundaramoorthy, president and chief operating officer, Tampa Bay Times
  • David Woronoff, publisher, The Pilot, Southern Pines, North Carolina

Dean Ridings, CEO of America's Newspapers, said: “We are grateful to David Dunn-Rankin, Daisy Donald and Conan Gallaty for their service on the board, which will end Oct. 22.” David Dunn-Rankin is president of D-R Media in Venice, Florida,  Daisy Donald was formerly with FT Strategies and Conan Gallaty is chairman and CEO of the Tampa Bay Times.

All members are encouraged to attend the Senior Leadership Conference and the Tuesday morning business meeting.
