On Monday, U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers reached out to Spokesman-Review editor Rob Curley (Spokane, Washington), asking if he would be interested in attending Wednesday's inauguration as a guest of her office.

The newspaper said it accepted the opportunity "to view history first-hand and see behind-the-scenes what the locked-down event would be like for members of all three branches of government in attendance," but demanded "absolutely no strings be attached." The newspaper paid all expenses associated with the trip.

In a report by KREM-TV, the congresswoman's spokesperson said she invited The Spokesman-Review editor as her guest so someone local could witness the historic event.
