Krys Fluker, who spent the last 27 years of her career at The Daytona Beach (Florida) News-Journal, mostly in the Opinion department, has been named Opinion editor of the Orlando Sentinel.

In a column to readers, she wrote: "I’ll be taking the reins of the Opinion pages from Mike Lafferty — who tells us he’s retiring for good this time. He carried on the Sentinel’s grand tradition of strong, vibrant editorials that help shape the community’s agenda, leavened with a mix of columns that offer diverse perspectives from national and state leaders and cartoons that add some zing."

In the column, she said, "The Orlando Sentinel has been part of my life from the very beginning. It was the paper that helped me learn to read; the paper that turned me into a news junkie; the paper that, as a young reporter, was my most formidable competition."
