The trial to determine whether the gunman who killed five Capital Gazette employees was sane began today, three years and one day after the mass shooting.
After Circuit Judge Michael Wachs swore in and instructed the jury, defense attorneys delivered their opening statements on the case of the man who killed Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith and Wendi Winters. Prosecutors are expected to deliver their opening after the defense calls witnesses.
