The Kerrville (Texas) Daily Times will soon begin a search for a new leader as publisher Jennifer McCullough moves toward a well-earned retirement, officials said.
McCullough has spent more than 14 years at The Times, including the last year as publisher of the paper where she previously has worked as a sales representative and advertising director.
"I've been in the newspaper business since graduating college in 1981 — so 43 years in the business," McCullough said. "I've been fortunate to work with small community newspapers and to work for Southern Newspapers. It's truly been a gift to call myself an employee of The Kerrville Daily Times."
She said retirement will be an opportunity to take a deep breath, relax and spend quality time with her husband in their hometown in Pennsylvania, but that she will always remember what makes Kerrville special.
"It's the people — without a doubt," she said. "They've loving, giving, caring. The scenery is beautiful, but the people are better."
Southern Newspapers, the parent company of The Times, will begin its search for the next publisher shortly, said Vice President Neice Bell, but McCullough's many contributions won't be forgotten.
"While we are happy that Jennifer will be able to move back to she and her husband's home in Pennsylvania, we are sad to see her go," Bell said. "She will definitely be missed."
McCullough said even from far away she looks forward to seeing what The Kerrville Daily Times produces in the future.
"It's a great group, and I'm confident they will make the future everything they want it to be," McCullough said.
