Crystal Childers, general manager of The Duncan (Oklahoma) Banner, has been promoted to publisher of the newspaper.

A Duncan native, Childers joined the Banner in 2013 as an advertising representative. She moved up to advertising department manager in 2017 and to general manager in 2020.

Lisa Chappell, regional executive for the paper’s parent company CNHI, said Childers was a natural choice for publisher, based on her experience, leadership style and connection to the City of Duncan and Stephens County market.

“Crystal is passionate about the newspaper’s role in serving the community with print and online news and advertising content,” said Chappell.

Childers said she’s “honored” to join the line of Banner publishers committed over the years to the community, and “excited to continue the type of impactful local journalism readers expect.”

The Duncan Banner, located in southern Oklahoma, is 130 years old. It publishes three times per week — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday — and posts news, sports and local events on its website throughout the week.
