Leona Allen, a Dallas native and longtime editor at The Dallas Morning News, is being elevated to a new position of deputy publisher responsible for diversity and inclusion across the company.

Allen’s promotion makes her one of the highest-ranking Black female executives in the newspaper industry. Her role grew out of efforts that started last fall to make the company’s workforce more representative of the community it serves.

“Our company must be committed to ‘walking the walk’ when it comes to diversity and inclusion, and I have every confidence Leona will help lead us to new heights as she takes on this important leadership role,” said Grant Moise, publisher and president of The Dallas Morning News.
