HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Center Square is announcing that veteran journalist Ford Turner has joined its newsroom as Pennsylvania state capitol reporter, covering state government, policy and politics from Harrisburg.
Turner brings decades of reporting experience and deep familiarity with the Pennsylvania Capitol. Over the past seven years, he covered state government for the Morning Call of Allentown and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Earlier in his career, he reported for The Patriot-News in Harrisburg and worked for Dow Jones News Service in Manhattan.
Turner grew up in Pennsylvania around journalism. He is the son of longtime Harrisburg Evening News writer and World War II Navy veteran Cal Turner. His work has earned numerous professional honors, including the Pennsylvania Distinguished Writing Award.
Turner said he is eager to continue reporting on the policies and people shaping the Commonwealth.
“I’m excited to continue covering the goings-on at our state capitol and to explore how decisions made there affect the lives of everyday Pennsylvanians,” Turner said. “The Center Square offers a great opportunity to connect those dots for readers across the state.”
Christen Smith, Pennsylvania editor for The Center Square said Turner’s experience and knowledge of Harrisburg make him a strong addition to the newsroom.
“Ford is one of the most experienced Capitol reporters in Pennsylvania,” Smith said. “His deep understanding of state government and his commitment to clear, fact-based reporting will be a tremendous asset to The Center Square and to the audiences we serve.”
The Center Square provides state and national coverage focused on government, public policy, and the stories shaping communities across the United States. Its reporting is distributed to print, digital, radio and broadcast news outlets nationwide.
Turner will be based in Harrisburg and will cover developments at the Pennsylvania capitol as part of The Center Square’s growing statehouse reporting team.
