Executive Editor Maria De Varenne, The Tennessean’s tenacious longtime newsroom leader, has announced plans to retire from journalism.
De Varenne, the first female executive editor in the news outlet’s storied history, took the helm more than a decade ago and led The Tennessean’s newsroom at a time when Nashville’s unbridled growth increasingly put the city in the national spotlight.
