He’s an optimist with a bit of a potty mouth and a passion for Zane’s Tavern — total Aspen editor material. Ray Erku’s made his way upvalley to take the helm at The Aspen Times.
“Let’s be honest, we’re two blocks away from Ajax. If I’m going to go to a new place, I better d*mn well be two blocks away from the next ski run,” he said. “I mean, who the hell can beat that?”
Erku, 34, like many Roaring Fork Valley residents, comes to Aspen from just down Colorado Highway 82. He’s worked as a lead reporter and then managing editor at the Times’ sister paper the Glenwood Post-Independent since October 2020, covering local government, education, and sports.
