One of the most essential parts of a local community is its newspaper. The news not only informs, but connects people in a way large, national publications can’t.
For some time now, the Aberdeen American News has left its readers without local content due to its lack of staff — my job as the new editor is to get it back to telling the stories of Aberdeen and Brown County.
I want to thank our sports reporter Roger Merriam for his work to ensure that American News readers weren’t left entirely without local stories.
In my new position, I am the editor of The Aberdeen (South Dakota) American News, The Watertown (South Dakota) Public Opinion and The St. Cloud Times in Minnesota. While I run papers in Minnesota and South Dakota, I am a life-long resident of Michigan.
