In a memo to staff, News Director for Europe and Africa James Jordan announced that Krutika Pathi has been appointed the news director for the U.K. and Ireland, based in London:
Krutika is currently the South Asia correspondent for the AP, based in New Delhi, covering India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. She has been central in the region's reporting on the India election, Sri Lanka's economic woes and the student uprising in Bangladesh.
She previously worked for BBC News and CityLab — a Bloomberg publication. She has a bachelor's degree in sociology from Lancaster University and a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. She also took part in the AP’s LEAD program for leadership development in 2023.
Krutika will oversee all-formats coverage in the U.K. and Ireland in what is a crucial time for the region post-Brexit, a new U.K. government and no end in sight for the Ukraine-Russia war.
She will start her new position toward the end of November.
Many thanks to the U.K. team and everyone involved in helping run coverage over the past months.
