Juan Esparza Loera, a veteran journalist and an inductee of Fresno State’s Media, Communications and Journalism Hall of Fame, is the new opinion editor at The Fresno Bee.

Esparza Loera will be an opinion columnist, editorial writer and editor of Fresno Bee opinion content. He brings a unique perspective on his city and region developed over 34 distinguished years as the founding editor of Vida en el Valle, The Bee’s bilingual publication. Before that, Esparza Loera was a reporter and then an editor at The Modesto Bee for a decade. And he previously covered sports for the Bakersfield Californian. Esparza Loera “got the journalism bug” as a student at Delano High School, pounding out his first stories in the 1970s on a Smith Corona electric typewriter, a gift from his father that Esparza Loera still owns.
