BEND, OR — The Independent Newspaper Group (ING) is pleased to announce the appointment of Heidi Wright as its new executive director. She succeeds Don Farley, who has led the organization for the past five years and helped strengthen its role as a voice and resource for independent publishers nationwide.

Wright brings more than two decades of executive leadership in the news industry, including her recent seven-year tenure as chief operating officer and publisher at EO Media Group, a family-owned company with 14 newspapers across the Pacific Northwest. She is the immediate past president of the board of directors for America’s Newspapers and a former board member of the PAGE Cooperative.

“Independent newspapers continue to face a challenging environment,” said Brendan McQuaid, chair of the ING board of directors. “We at the ING are excited to have Heidi and her wealth of experience on board to continue the great work of Don Farley. We wish Don well and he will be greatly missed.”

Founded 38 years ago, the Independent Newspaper Group is an industry association committed to supporting the continued vitality of independently owned news organizations. ING provides a platform for peer connection and information sharing, focusing on issues affecting independent publishers.

“I’m honored to step into this role and build on Don Farley’s leadership,” said Wright. “Independent journalism is essential to informed communities and a healthy democracy, and ING is here to ensure our members remain strong, resilient, and connected.”
