Heidi Wright, immediate past president of America's Newspapers, reflected on the journey she has shared with the local community in a recent column as she bid farewell on her last day as chief operating officer of EO Media Group and publisher of The Bulletin in Bend, Oregon.
As I say farewell on my last day as chief operating officer of EO Media Group and publisher of The Bulletin, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we’ve shared over the past five years.
This community has been a beacon of support for local journalism, reminding us of the vital role that a strong, independent news organization plays in fostering civic engagement and community connection. Our newsroom is rightfully proud of winning the top statewide Excellence in Journalism award three years running (2021-2023) — not for the award itself, but for providing high quality journalism to Bend and Central Oregon.
She noted in her column that she will be staying in Bend and dedicating her time to continuing the work of FORJ, where she serves as a board member, along with advocating for state and federal legislation that supports expanding community-based journalism throughout Oregon and the country.
