The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University has named longtime media innovator Andy Pergam as the new executive director of the Knight Center for the Future of News.

The center, supported by a $10.5 million investment from John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and an additional $4 million from ASU, is designed to boldly accelerate the transformation of the news industry. It will explore how emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, are transforming how news and information are created, consumed and distributed; develop new models for industry sustainability; and create practical tools to support the next generation of media leaders.

As executive director, Pergam will guide the center’s strategic vision, expanding partnerships across academia, media, technology and philanthropy, and lead initiatives that help journalists, entrepreneurs and news organizations navigate a rapidly shifting news landscape.
