Exiting a rewarding, complicated news career isn't easy, but I've had practice: Pam Sander

Posted

At the end of March, Pam Sander is stepping down from her role as executive editor for the Wilmington StarNews and regional editor for Gannett Southeast.  In a column in the Wilmington StarNews, she wrote:

Since the merger of GateHouse and Gannett two years ago, I’ve spent considerable time bringing together 21 daily newspapers, two twice-weeklies and five weeklies in five states. The work has been challenging and rewarding. And exhausting.

We’re there now — same systems, same news priorities and same overall goals. Most of our sites had record readership and digital subscription growth in 2021, some atop the company leaderboard.

As a region, the Southeast finished the year more than 10 percent above goal for new digital subscribers and 82 percent up overall from the previous year.

That’s because our reporters, editors, photographers and support staff are producing difference-making journalism; their passion and talent are worth your readership. Buying a digital subscription will be my first assignment after I sign off.
