From the Publisher: Don't worry. We're still here.

To emphasize the importance of local news, The Outlook in Portland, Ore., published a blank front page this morning. It also carried a four-page wrap around today's regular edition with testimonials from its staff about why they do their jobs, followed by comments from readers about the value community news provides to them and their community.

This week, as part of an ongoing commitment to Save Community Journalism, every Pamplin Media Group newspaper is asking its readers to consider: "What if this newspaper did not exist?"

Steve Brown, publisher of The Outlook, wrote in a column to readers: "Unfortunately, the days are gone when we could count on our advertising to completely sustain us. Google, Facebook and Amazon have not been kind to local media companies or many of the businesses that traditionally support us with their advertising.

"That's why we are asking you, our loyal readers, to help us. For a majority of the people reading this, you already are doing a lot. You value community news and we thank you for this. We hope you continue to read and subscribe to The Outlook..."

For a limited time, Pamplin Media Group is offering an ALL ACCESS STORY PASS. For less than $2 per week, subscribers receive unlimited access to more than 4,400 local stories each month across the 25 Pamplin Media Group websites as well as their corresponding electronic newspapers.
