Ryan Ocenada joins San Francisco Chronicle as associate audience editor

The Chronicle is thrilled to announce that Ryan Ocenada has joined our audience team as associate editor. In his new role, Ocenada will help the newsroom expand its reach via search optimization, social media and emerging platforms.

Ocenada comes to the newsroom from NBCUniversal, where he helped set search and social strategies as an audience development editor. He’s also worked in audience and editorial roles for the Golden State Warriors, Bleacher Report and Twitter.

“Ryan brings a very well-rounded mix of experience in news and social media to The Chronicle,” said Director of Audience Jess Shaw. “We are so excited to bring on another Bay Area local who is passionate and knowledgeable about our local communities — and sports teams!”

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Ocenada said he is proud to bring a local perspective to the newsroom.

“When I was a kid, my dad used to buy the paper every morning and I would read it before he dropped me off at school,” said Ocenada. “I am excited for the opportunity to work at a major daily publication I’ve followed and admired for years.”
