America’s Newspapers seeks nominations to board

This position will fill the unfulfilled term of a publication member, with a term of service through October 2022.  There may also be additional board openings this October.

Self-nominations and nominations of your colleagues are enthusiastically welcomed. In keeping with its goals of increasing diversity in the industry, the nominating committee encourages people of color to apply.

The America’s Newspapers board consists of at least 18 voting members from publications and three voting members from associate members, in addition to four officers. The CEO is a non-voting member of the board. The Board of Directors is responsible for exercising general supervision over the policies and affairs of America’s Newspapers and supervises the work of the chief executive officer.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Perform executive leadership and governance duties.
  • Provide guidance in the organization‘s programs, training and the annual conference.
  • Grow and diversify membership.
  • Advocate on behalf of the industry.
  • Serve as a member of the organization’s committees.
  • Be a passionate advocate for excellence in journalism.

Board nominee criteria includes:

  • Must serve in a senior management role at a member publication.
  • Five or more years experience in news media management.
  • Ability to participate in board meetings (via Zoom or in-person three to four times each year).
  • Bring diversity of perspectives to the board (demographic, geographic, organization size/type, etc.).

Upon receipt of a nomination, a member of the Nominating Committee will contact the nominee to verify their interest in serving on the board and to answer any questions.
