America’s Newspapers to host Washington, D.C., legislative fly-in in March

Posted

The efforts to pass the Local Journalism Sustainability Act demonstrated the power and influence of newspaper industry leaders engaging directly with their government representatives. To further our advocacy efforts, America’s Newspapers will host its first legislative fly-in in Washington, D.C., March 8 and 9, 2022.

A legislative fly-in is a unique opportunity for our members to meet with their elected officials to emphasize the issues that impact not just the newspaper industry, but also their constituents at home. Typically, our members would arrange their own meetings directly by with legislators or their senior staffs.

The fly-in event will open with an America’s Newspapers legislative briefing and a reception on the evening of Tuesday, March 8. On Wednesday, March 9, we will provide breakfast from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. and then are asking our members to schedule meetings with their legislators throughout the day.

Our host hotel will be the iconic The Watergate Hotel, which will be observing 50 years since the infamous break-in. Discounted rooms are available for Tuesday and Wednesday evening at $259 per night. Registration for the legislative briefing, reception and breakfast is $125 per person.
