Hearst Newspapers names Patty Michalski SVP of content strategy and innovation

Hearst Newspapers has named Patty Michalski senior vice president of content strategy and innovation. The announcement was made by Hearst President and CEO Steven R. Swartz and Hearst Newspapers President Jeffrey Johnson.

“Patty has a proven track record in the industry of digital content innovation and execution,” Johnson said. “We are delighted that she is joining Hearst to work with our newsrooms as we serve our local communities.”

Previously, Michalski held a variety of senior editorial and audience development roles over a 20+ year career with Gannett. Since 2017, she served as executive editor of USA TODAY and director of audience of the USA TODAY Network. Throughout her career, Michalski led newsroom initiatives that center on digital innovation along with content and engagement strategies. Michalski’s work includes leading USA TODAY’s mobile and social media strategies.

“It’s an honor to join a company with such a rich news and newspaper tradition,” Michalski said. “I am thrilled about the opportunity to add to that tradition by working with the Hearst newspapers to attract new readers with compelling content on all of our platforms.”

Michalski graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and art history.
