Ryan Gilchrest has been named managing editor of The Post and Courier Greenville, heading up the powerhouse team that will lead the South Carolina paper's digital-only newsroom in Greenville.

Gilchrest comes to The Post and Courier Greenville from his role as managing editor for both The Virginian-Pilot and the Daily Press in Norfolk and Newport News, respectively. In that role, he led a 120-person newsroom that covered some of the mid-Atlantic's biggest stories.

Executive Editor Mitch Pugh said Gilchrest "will lead our reporting team, help us grow our digital subscription base and work to become an integral part of the community."  Gilchrest and several others from the The Post and Courier will be meeting with key community leaders in Greenville this week.

The Post and Courier Greenville also has appointed Eric Connor at local editor.  Connor has spent 20 years in the Greenville market as a reporter and mentor to less experienced journalists.  His new role will be that of player-coach, as he will be assisting Gilchrest in leading the team and doing reporting, as well.

Anna B. Mitchell has also joined the team as a reporter.  Pugh said, "Anna is a fascinating person, terrific writer and reporter and a dedicated member of the Greenville community."

Pugh said Mitchell's background makes her the right person to tell the stories that mattter. "In addition to her experience in the market at the Greenville News, Anderson Independent-Mail and Community Journals, Anna spent time in journalism graduate school at the University of Missouri and earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Applied Sciences in Wurzburg, Germany. And she’s been teaching the German language since 2019 at the Upstate German School. Her experience demonstrates just how vibrant and diverse the community of Greenville truly is."

More hires will be announced by the paper soon.
