Paxton Media has sold the 142-year-old weekly Sumter Times, the county seat weekly in Sumter, Florida, to D-R Media. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Jamie Paxton, CEO of Paxton Media said, “We acquired this weekly with our acquisition of the Landmark newspapers in Florida a year ago. We love the Florida market, but this small weekly fits perfectly with the existing D-R Media weekly paper in Sumter and the D-R Media footprint in central Florida.”

The CEO of D-R Media, David Dunn-Rankin, commented that “we are excited about adding the historic Sumter Times to our Sumter News Sun creating the Sumter Sun Times. There was very little overlap in terms of distribution or advertising customers making the combination a strong 24-page broadsheet product designed to serve the part of Sumter County that is outside The Villages.”

All the employees of the Sumter Times were hired by D-R Media and the two papers will combine into one publication in mid-May.
