The Washington Post has named Kodi Foster vice president of commercial, effective immediately. The Society of Professional Journalists honors Kathryn Foxhall with the Wells Memorial Key. This award is the highest honor for an SPJ member and was officially presented Sept. 4 at the President’s Awards Ceremony during the SPJ21 conference. Foxhall was previously informed of her honor over Zoom by friends and colleagues.

Sarah Bartlett, dean of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, has announced that after two decades at CUNY, she will retire next June following the end of the academic year. By that time, she will have served nearly nine years as dean of the journalism school.

Houston Chronicle Publisher John McKeon said Thursday that he will be retiring, capping a more than 40-year career in the newspaper business. McKeon, who has been the Chronicle’s publisher since 2015, will stay on with the company while a search is conducted for his successor. The search is expected to take several months.

In announcing his plans to retire, Rodney Mahone, McClatchy's Georgia market president and corporate vice president of in-market sales across the company’s 30 markets, said: “It’s time to take a break after almost 32 years. Both of our kids are now in college, and my wife and I would like to spend more time with each other and our parents that are in town as well.”

Steve McPhaul has announced his plan to retire in mid-January as CNHI, LLC executive vice president and chief operating officer, completing two decades of leadership with the community newspaper company. Matthew Gray, CNHI’s general legal counsel, has been appointed to succeed McPhaul as executive vice president.
