Reina Owens, longtime McAlester (Oklahoma) News-Capital advertising executive, has been promoted to general manager.

Owens has worked at the News-Capital since becoming an advertising executive in 2005. She was promoted to advertising director in 2011.

“I’m excited about this opportunity to serve the community — our readers and advertisers,” Owens said. “I look forward to helping lead the News-Capital in its next phase of success.”

Owens succeeds Ed Choate in the top management role in McAlester. Choate recently became publisher of the Muskogee Phoenix. Both papers are owned by CNHI, LLC.

“Reina has done an outstanding job at the News-Capital and we’re excited to move her into this expanded role,” CNHI Group Publisher Dale Brendel said. “She’s a hometown success story and she’s earned this opportunity to lead our team and continue our vital role in the community.”

Owens was born and raised in McAlester, graduating from McAlester High School in 1998. She is involved in multiple organizations in the community, including serving on the McAlester Main Street board, McAlester Country Club board and the Pink Ribbon committee.

“I love McAlester. It’s my home,” Owens said. “Our family and many friends are here. We love being part of the community.“
