Report examines impact of news deserts

Local news access is shrinking, and rural areas are being hit the hardest. In fact, more than 500 of the 1,800 newspapers that have merged or closed since 2004 were in rural communities.

A new report from Pew Research Center’s Stateline examines why rural newspapers are suffering the most, how this impacts community members, and potential solutions to reverse news deserts.
