Chicago Reader to pursue nonprofit status

Posted

The Chicago Reader is the latest publication to announce a transition to life as a nonprofit. The alternative weekly will be purchased by a new nonprofit, the Reader Institute for Community Journalism, which is set to launch in January 2020.

The announcement comes just a year after the publication was bought by a private investment group. Current owners Elzie Higginbottom and Leonard Goodman have voiced continued support for the newspaper.
