Help for newspapers both parties can agree on

Congressional legislation that would carve out a temporary antitrust law exemption for the newspaper industry got a big boost last week as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel (R.-Ky.) voiced support for the “Journalism Competition and Preservation Act.” The law would allow newspapers and other news media to jointly negotiate with the big digital platforms Facebook and Google over payment and usage terms for their content.

This New York Times article uses The Northeast Georgian, in the small town of Cornelia, as an example of the struggle local newspapers face competing with these powerful social and search platforms.
