"Welcome to America's Newspapers," President Chris Reen announced to attendees gathered for the big reveal at the Welcome Reception during the inaugural meeting.

He said the name is "simple, it's to the point, it says exactly what we do. It's uniquely American and preserves our legacy while repositioning us for the future. And, most importantly, it puts the focus and the emphasis on you as our members and not just on us as an association."

Earlier in the day, he told attendees at the Monday morning general session that he is "humbled to have been chosen as the first president of the new association."

"Your new association," he said, "is keeping all of the qualities that we love about SNPA and Inland:  the collegial atmosphere, the comaraderie of members, the can-do spirit and the down-to-earth, practical information shared inside and outside of conference sessions.

"To all that, we're adding into our new association a renewed sense of mission, and we're redoubling our efforts to explain, defend and advance the vital role of newspapers in our democracy and civil life."
